6th Grade Science Plans for January 16th through 20th, 2017

Greetings!

Hope you are enjoying the long week-end.  Sounds like we're done with the cold weather for a while and our warmer, wet weather will return next week--we'll see.  Now on to this week's plans:

MONDAY--Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday--NO SCHOOL

TUESDAY--Students will receive three assignments back and we will go over them.  Then students will begin taking notes in their Science Notebooks on the Seasons Slide Presentation, so NO HOMEWORK, but those notes will be DUE FRIDAY.

WEDNESDAY--Students will continue to take notes in their Science Notebooks from the Seasons Slide Presentation.  This will be DUE FRIDAY.

THURSDAY--Students will have a "Catch Up Day" and will complete any of the notes from the Seasons Slide Show notes that should be in their Science Notebooks.  Those notes are DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Students will take a QUIZ ON SEASONS, so NO HOMEWORK.  Also, this is the LAST DAY to RETAKE THE GRAPHING QUIZ.

Last week students worked on the concept of hours or daylight and latitude through graphs. (Students needed more time on graphing than I had originally thought, so I needed to adjust the activities and time last week.  I hope that did not inconvenience you.) Friday I thought the students could complete the final project in one period, but it seems most were only able to complete the online research component.  The second part was graphing the data using a website called "Create A Graph".  Many of the students wanted to complete this work over the weekend.  PLEASE ASK YOUR STUDENT ABOUT THIS.  If your child is going to complete the work at home this weekend, the only "tricky" part is sharing it with me.  He/she should NOT email it to me.  Instead, they are to save it in their Science folder in the Google Drive.  I have attached directions on one way to do this in the "Message Center" on Skyward.  Please direct your student there if he/she is having problems.  I'm holding off grading this work until Tuesday night.  I hope this helps.

I will be out of the classroom on Thursday, January 19th for Science curriculum work, so students will have a substitute instructor.  I have built in a "Catch Up Day" for any missing or incomplete assignments.  Please look carefully at your student's progress report and  help your student make a plan to prioritize their work.  This could greatly help your child's grade in Science.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, and or concerns, please contact me.  The best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble
