Art Plans for May 19th through 23rd, 2014

Greetings!

It's going to be a busy week with a rather crazy schedule, so hang on to your hat!  Here's the important info:

First of all, there will be MAP TESTING Monday & Tuesday for the 8th graders, but I shouldn't lose my 6th period Art class.  But on Thursday the "Testing Dance" will take place 6th & 7th period, so I will lose my 6th period artists that day.  Wednesday is the Band Concert, but I don't think that affects us.  Also, there is NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, so there you have it--a rather "patchwork quilt" of a week, but we will get through it.  Here is the best I can do for this week's schedule:

MONDAY--Students who have finished their grid assignment will begin the clay project, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--We will continue to work on the Ancient Egyptian Clay Project, so NO HOMEWORK there, either.

WEDNESDAY--This will be the last day in class for the students to work with the clay, so it HAS to be done.  Also, I will be gone that afternoon, so students can't stay after school.--The claywork is due Thursday, but students can stay after school that day to finish it up if need be.

THURSDAY--The "Testing Dance" will take place 6th & 7th periods, so NO HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--NO SCHOOL

What a crazy week--but hopefully you will have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.  Next week should be a little more "normal" (not that they ever are in middle school--Ha, ha!)

Take care,
Michele Humble

Science Plans for May 19th through 23rd, 2014

Greetings!

It's going to be a busy week with a rather crazy schedule, so hang on to your hat!  Here's the important info:

First of all, NO CHAPTER 1 SCIENCE TEST THIS WEEK--I simply can't fit it in.  There will be MAP TESTING Monday & Tuesday, so I will lose 3rd & 5th period Science classes on those days, then Thursday the "Testing Dance" will take place 6th & 7th period, so I will lose my 7th period scientists that day, and Wednesday is the Band Concert, so both periods of 6th grade band will need to practice that day.  Also, there is NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, so there you have it--a rather "patchwork quilt" of a week, but we will get through it.  Here is the best I can do for this week's schedule:

MONDAY--(2nd & 7th periods) We will be doing a vocabulary activity in class, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--(2nd & 7th periods)  We will be adding eclipse information to our Science Notebooks, so NO HOMEWORK there, either.

WEDNESDAY--(2nd & 7th periods)  "Phases of the Moon" Puzzle.  This is a HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT--Due Thursday.

THURSDAY--(2nd, 4th, & 5th periods)  We will reading an article about the meteor shower that will take place on Friday. This will be done in class, so NO HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--NO SCHOOL

What a crazy week--but hopefully you will have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.  Next week should be a little more "normal" (not that they ever are in middle school--Ha, ha!)

Take care,
Michele Humble

Art Plans for May 12th through 16th, 2014

Greetings!

Hope you had an enjoyable Mother's Day and are all set for a week of incredibly warm weather!  Sorry I am a day behind on this, but I enjoyed Mom's Day, too, with my children.  (Both of whom are Tenino Beaver grads, I'm proud to say.)  Now on to the plans for the week:

MONDAY--We reviewed the Art magazine that covers Ancient Egypt and our next project.  NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--We will go over the instructions for our next project and will begin sketching.  These sketches will be due on Friday.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START & TALENT SHOW--I doubt I will even see my Art students.

THURSDAY--Students will continue to work on the sketches for the Ancient Egypt project.  DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--I will be in Aberdeen for Science training, so there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom.  Students will probably watch a movie on Ancient Egypt.  NO HOMEWORK.

Overall, an easy week for the students.  As always, please contact me with questions, comments, or concerns.

Enjoy the heat, then the rain over the weekend,
Michele Humble

Science Plans for May 12th through 16th, 2014

MONDAY--Students will receive their "Moon Logs" today.  They should be observing the Moon's phases for the next month and recording their observations on these sheets.  Easy to do if you keep track of when the moon rises and sets--Today it rose at 6:31 p.m.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) it will be about 45 minutes later.  Also, we watched a movie about the Moon, so NO HOMEWORK TODAY.

TUESDAY--Students will receive their "Phases of the Moon Puzzle".  Although the students will receive some work time on these in class, they ARE HOMEWORK, and are due tomorrow (Wednesday).  No here's the "biggie"--I will be handing back and going over the FOUR WORKSHEETS students have done for Chapter 1.  STUDENTS NEED TO HOLD ON TO THESE TO STUDY.  We will be taking the TEST ON CHAPTER 1 NEXT WEEK.  It would be wise to start studying now.  These work sheets are SO valuable, AND you can use your student's textbook to study.  The questions will be very similar to those on the worksheets.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START, "Smarter Balanced" Math testing, and the Talent Show.  Needless to say, NO HOMEWORK.  (Except maybe studying for the test.)

THURSDAY--More "Smarter Balanced" Math testing, so I will only see 7th period class.  I will get them caught up on the class they missed last Friday due to the Band Assembly we had.  NO HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--I will be gone (Aberdeen Friday & Saturday for more Science training), so the substitute will be showing a video on the Moon Landing.  NO HOMEWORK.

Overall, an easy week for the students.  Please start studying for the test; I will send another email by the weekend being more specific on the date.  As always, please contact me with questions, comments, or concerns.

Enjoy the heat, then the rain over the weekend,

Science Plans for May 5th through 9th, 2014

Greetings!

Well, the big Science field trip to Seattle is almost here!  Just a few things to remember:
PLEASE BE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BY 6:45 A.M. TUESDAY MORNING; we will be facing Seattle traffic, and since the production starts at 10:30 a.m., I don't want to take any chances at missing it.
YOUR STUDENT NEEDS TO BRING A SACK LUNCH.  We will be stopping at North Sea-Tac Park after the presentation, so your child will need to eat his/her sack lunch there.
We are planning on being back in time for students to catch the regular bus route, so look for your student at the regular time if he or she rides the bus.

Now on to the rest of the week:

MONDAY--We will review the Chapter 1 Sections 1, 2, & 3 worksheets we've done, plus will go over expectations for the field trip.  No homework.

TUESDAY--FIELD TRIP TO SEATTLE!  Obviously no homework.

WEDNESDAY--We will read Chapter 1 Section 4, then do the worksheets that go with it.  HOMEWORK DUE THURSDAY.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY--"Smarter Balanced" testing.  No homework.

Please feel free to contact me (email:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or classroom phone:  (360) 264-3644) with any questions or concerns.  Have a great week!

Art Plans for May 5th through May 9th, 2014

Greetings!

I finally have some grades to post for Art!  We completed the "Tenino Wooden Money" project this week, then worked on the "Scratch Art" project and completed it on Friday.  By the way, when I tried to grade them after school, there were four that had no name on them.  If you see that your student's is marked as a "Missing Assignment", it might be one of those four.  I intend to ask the students tomorrow (Monday) whose is whose, then load those grades into the gradebook after school, so that will help.

Now on to this week's plans:

MONDAY: We will watch an Art video, then I will try to identify the missing assignments.  No homework.

TUESDAY:  Students will read the Art magazine on Ancient Egypt.  I will be gone that day.  No homework.

WEDNESDAY:  Students will answer the comprehension questions on the magazine; this assignment will be due on Thursday.  HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY:  Begin Ancient Egypt project.  No homework.

As always, enjoy the week, and if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please contact me (email:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or classroom phone: (360) 264-3644).
