Academy Plans for December 12th through 16th, 2016

Greetings!

Sorry this is a tad bit later than I like to send these out, but you know how your time can slip away during the holidays!  Here are this week's plans:

MONDAY--Students will participate in our weekly "Life Skills" class, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, & THURSDAY--Students will work on their Career research and presentation, so NO HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--Students will take a little break and watch a video based on a literary work.  NO HOMEWORK.

I'm sure you received the following email:

This afternoon we became aware of a threat to our middle school campus. Law enforcement is investigating and in our consultation with them it was determined that the threat is benign. Regardless, as our school safety is a priority, we will have additional supervision and law enforcement on campus for the remainder of this week to ensure everyone’s safety.  As a precaution we ask that student backpacks not be brought to school for the remainder of this week unless absolutely necessary.  The District will follow up with additional information as it becomes available.  Thank you.

As it stated, we feel the threat is benign, however we want to err on the side of caution.  The safety of your student is our highest concern.  I know this will be an inconvenience, but at least it's only three days, so please be patient.  Chromebooks will probably be the biggest hassle, so I won't plan on using them in my classes for the next three days, how's that?

Enjoy the Winter Break, and please remember that we resume school MONDAY, JANUARY 2ND.  That is different from the other school districts around us, so I just want you to be prepared.

As always, please contact me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns.  The best phone number is the one in my classroom (360-264-3644) and the best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a festive holiday season,

Academy Plans for December 5th through 9th, 2016

Greetings!

Sorry this is late, but after grading 116 Science Notebooks over the past four days, I'm a little punchy--maybe punchier than usual.  I am sending the final report grade for Trimester #1, so this is a "what you see is what you get"  situation.  Paper report cards are to be mailed out Friday, December 16th, so this is a "sneak preview", at least for Science.  Hopefully, you & your student are pleased with these results.  You will also see my comments on the paper report card.

So here are the plans for this week:

MONDAY--Students will participate in our weekly "Life Skills" lesson, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--Students will work on their "Career Research Project", so NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START DAY--Students will finish the auction we started on Friday, so NO HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY--Students will continue to work on their "Career Research Project", so NO HOMEWORK.

Occasionally in Academy, your student may be using the "Quizlet" program for electronic review online.  I asked the students to enroll, and that requires a parent/guardian email address.  Hopefully you have received an email from them informing you of your student's participation.  It is a "safe site", so please be aware I asked the students to join.  If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns about this, please contact me and I will be happy to explain why I chose this site.

As mentioned above, Wednesday is a "Late Start Day", so hopefully you are aware and prepared for this.

Crazy weather this week, so hopefully you have been receiving the "Robocalls" from the Tenino School District and/or have signed up via the School District website for the texts/flash alerts.  You will actually know about closures BEFORE they announce it on television, so it' nice to have.  Please take advantage of this wonderful resource.

As always, if you have any need to contact me, the best phone number is (360) 264-3644 and email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a wonderful (and hopefully warm) week,
Michele Humble
