Art Plan for January 27-31, 2014

Greetings!

Here we are at the last week of the first semester!  And as I told you last week, Monday, January 27th is the last day for students to turn in late/missing work and extra credit.  Just a reminder there is no school on Friday (Teacher Work Day) and here's the plan for Art this week:

Monday & Tuesday we will complete the "Create-A-Creature" project in oil pastels.  Wednesday we will take an end of the term test, and Thursday we will have our second quarter auction and elect our treasurer for the third quarter.  So the only homework will be getting the "Create-A-Creature" project turned in on time (Wednesday).

Have a wonderful week, and please contact me with any questions or concerns,
Michele M. Humble

Plan for January 27-31, 2014 for Science & Academy

Greetings!

Here we are at the last week of the first semester!  And as I told you last week, Monday, January 27th is the last day for students to turn in late/missing work and extra credit.  Just a reminder there is no school on Friday (Teacher Work Day) and here's the plan for this week:

SCIENCE--We will finish the "Mystery Concentration Lab" on Monday and Tuesday we will take a quiz on concentration.  Wednesday we will begin a lab on chemical reactions, and Thursday we will have our end of the term auction and elect our treasurer for the third quarter.  So no homework in Science this week.

ACADEMY--We will begin our figurative speech unit, so there will be short homework assignments on both Tuesday & Wednesday.  Thursday we will hold our auction and election, too, so no homework over the three day weekend.

Have a wonderful week, and please contact me with any questions or concerns,

Art Schedule for January 20th through 24th, 2014

Greetings!

Hope you enjoyed the MLK three day weekend.  We had a really nice assembly put on this morning by our Leadership class to commemorate his life; you might want to ask your student about it.  And of course most of the students were excited about the Seahawks winning Sunday (me too!), except my rare 49'ers fans.  I think Denver fans will be few and far between in the middle school these next two weeks.  Now on to this week!  And as if this wasn't enough to get them sky high, I'm sure you've heard about the dance this Friday!

In ART this week, students will turn in the surrealistic collage we have been working on for the past week; it is due on Friday, but the last work time in class was Tuesday.  We are starting on a new project ("Creative Creature in Oil Pastels") on Wednesday; this will be due next Monday (1/27).

As the semester is rapidly drawing to a close (January 30th is the last day), THE LAST DAY FOR LATE WORK, MISSING WORK, OR EXTRA CREDIT IS MONDAY, JANUARY 27TH.  I will tell them tomorrow, but please emphasize this with your student.  I won't be making any exceptions on this deadline unless an absence is involved on that Monday.  Also, just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 31ST.

As always, please feel free to contact me at:  email--humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or by phone--(360) 264-3644.

Have a great week,
Michele M. Humble

Plans for the Week of January 20th through 24th, 2014

Greetings!

Hope you enjoyed the MLK three day weekend.  We had a really nice assembly put on this morning by our Leadership class to commemorate his life; you might want to ask your student about it.  And of course all of the sixth graders were excited about the Seahawks winning Sunday (me too!), except my rare 49'ers fans.  I think Denver fans will be few and far between in the middle school these next two weeks.  Now on to this week!  And as if this wasn't enough to get them sky high, I'm sure you've heard about the dance this Friday!

SCIENCE--Tuesday we added some vocab words to our Science Notebooks, so no homework.  Wednesday we will be doing a demonstration, and both Thursday & Friday we will be engaged in labs.  So I guess the good news this week is NO HOMEWORK!

ACADEMY--We had the assembly Tuesday, so no homework there.  The rest of the week we will be making Lit Log entries, silent reading, and working through the "Figurative Speech" PowerPoint presentation, so no homework there, either.

The Week of January 13th through 17th, 2014

Greetings!

As I warned you last week, this one will be a bit on the crazy side.  Wednesday is a "late start" day and we are MAP testing first and second periods on Tuesday (Reading) and Thursday (Math).  I guess the good side of that is that there's no homework this week.  So here goes--

SCIENCE--We are doing a Science demo in class on Monday, so no homework.  Tuesday & Thursday we will read and discuss articles, so no homework there, either.  Wednesday we will do an assessment on saturation, so that will be done in class; it will be due at the end of the period.  Friday we will be drawing crystals, so no homework on that.

ACADEMY--We have started making entries in the Lit Logs, which has resulted in no homework last week and this.  This week I hope to start the introduction on Figurative Speech, so look for homework on that that NEXT WEEK, not this week.

Just one more reminder that there is no school on Monday, January 20th due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  So enjoy the three day weekend.  As always, please contact me ASAP with any questions, comments, and/or concerns you may have.  Best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us  and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble

Art Class Plans for the Week of January 6th through 10th, 2014

Greetings!

I hope you had a warm & wonderful winter break--I certainly did.  Just like the students, I am starting to get my rhythm back.  Sorry this is late; I like to aim at getting this emailed to you on Sunday.  Hopefully I will do better next week.  Just a couple of reminders about NEXT week:  Tuesday & Thursday will be MAP testing days.  Wednesday is a late start day, and the following Monday (January 20th) is the Martin Luther King Junior holiday, so there is no school.

So here's the plan for this week:

ART--Monday we discussed what we had done over the break, and I introduced our next unit, Surrealism.  Tuesday I introduced the Art magazine on Rene Magritte and gave students time to read it silently.  HOMEWORK ALERT:  Wednesday, students will be working on a worksheet on the articles; this will be due Thursday.  Thursday & Friday we will begin planning the surrealism project:  a collage.  This project will continue into next week.

As always, please feel free to contact me at any time (email--humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or phone--360-264-3644).

Enjoy the week,
Michele Humble
