7th Grade Science Plans for April 27th through May 1st, 2015

Greetings!
"Smarter Balance" (SBAC) testing has arrived, and here's some information for you.  First of all, testing days will take up 1st through 4th periods each day; this week students will be tested on English/Language Arts.  Here's the schedule:
6th grade--Monday & Thursday
7th grade--Tuesday & Friday
8th grade--Wednesday
Now on to class plans for this week:
MONDAY--Students finished watching the insect video, so NO HOMEWORK.
TUESDAY--Students will review "Procedure Writing" in class, then will have HOMEWORK DUE WEDNESDAY.
WEDNESDAY--Students will work on an assignment on procedure writing.  This is HOMEWORK DUE THURSDAY.
THURSDAY--Students will work in groups identifying insect adaptations.  STUDY FOR EXAM #8.
FRIDAY--Students will take Exam #8, so NO HOMEWORK.
Just a reminder--If a student turns out for middle school fall sports, and received one F on his/her report card, he/she will be INELIGIBLE FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL (TWO OR MORE F'S RESULT IN INELIGIBILITY FOR THE FIRST THREE WEEKS OF SCHOOL).  Since all of the fall sports start practice before school starts, this usually means your student will miss his/her first contest of the season.  Since you will be forking out money for a physical, ASB card, sports fee, pictures, t-shirts, etc., it will be frustrating for you, your student, and the coach (I coach volleyball).  So please look your student's grades over carefully, and if he/she is not passing all subjects, you may want to exert some parental pressure to get those grades up before the end of the year.
As always, please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.  The best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in the classroom is (360) 264-3644.
Have a wonderful week,

As you may already know, the students didn't do very well on Exam #2.  I am allowing them to RETAKE THIS EXAM.  However, they need to do this on their time:  either before school, at lunch, or after school.  If your students does this, please make sure he/she STUDIES FIRST.

Also, students have grades for that one exam and two homework assignments, and many of them are not turning in their homework.  FYI--If a student turns out for middle school fall sports, and received one F on his/her report card, he/she will be INELIGIBLE FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL.

MONDAY & TUESDAY--First of all, I was quite disappointed in the rough drafts the students turned in on the first trait.  These should have been AT LEAST A FULL PAGE LONG.  I am having almost all of them REDO THIS ASSIGNMENT.  I'm giving them time in class Monday & Tuesday to do this.  Here is where I need YOUR HELP.  PLEASE EDIT YOUR STUDENT'S DRAFT TUESDAY NIGHT before he/she turns it in on Wednesday.  (Parent Brooke Hart gets the gold metal for this!  She is an amazing editor; you should see Drew's rough draft--it is a work of art.)

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY--Students will work on the rough draft for Trait #2.  This will be DUE FRIDAY.  Again, please EDIT THIS FOR YOUR STUDENT THURSDAY NIGHT before it is turned in on Friday.

FRIDAY--Ms. Benek will be coming in for the weekly "Say It Straight" lesson, so NO HOMEWORK.

I know a lot of the students are participating in baseball, fast pitch, soccer, etc., so that's why I'm trying to work around the practice & games schedules you may have in your home right now.  But please help your student with these assignments; they are very important at teaching them both reading (finding three examples from the text to support their opinions) as well as being able to write a persuasive essay.  Thank you for your help in advance.
