6th Grade Science Plans for April 25th through 29th, 2016

Greetings!

Wasn't the "Evening of Excellence" wonderful?  It was so much fun to honor the students as they have been working so hard this year in so many different areas.  If you weren't able to attend, and you received an invitation, your student should have received his/her certificate and bumper sticker 7th period on Friday.  If there is a problem, please let us know ASAP so we can resolve it.  Now on to this week's plans:

MONDAY & TUESDAY--Students will TAKE THE SOLAR SYSTEM QUIZ (they should have been studying the material over the weekend).  ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT PASS WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE THE QUIZ UNTIL THEY DO throughout the week.  Next students will finish watching the video on the Solar System and will take notes on it.  These notes will be DUE TUESDAY after we complete the video.

WEDNESDAY--Students will take notes from a PowerPoint on "Location".  Even though there will be no homework, students should STUDY THE VOCABULARY FOR FRIDAY'S TEST.

THURSDAY--Students will make a map of the school from a "birds' eye view".  This is HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Students will TAKE THE TEST OVER THE MATERIAL THEY COVER THIS WEEK.  The Test will be DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD, so NO HOMEWORK.

This week marks the start of our State Testing.  On Thursday, your student will be testing on his/her Chromebook 2nd and 3rd periods.  Please be sure he/she gets a good night's sleep the night before and has a nutritious, filling breakfast on Thursday.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please contact me ASAP.  The best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,

MONDAY--Students will look over examples of the "Biography Project" to see what they will be doing, so there will be NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--Students will write the rough draft of Paragraph #1 (first character trait).  This is HOMEWORK DUE WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY--Students will write the rough draft for Paragraph #2 (second character trait).  This is also HOMEWORK DUE THURSDAY.

THURSDAY--Students will write the rough draft of the third character trait for Paragraph #3.  This is HOMEWORK too, so it will be DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Ms. Benek will come in for our weekly "Say It Straight" lesson, so NO HOMEWORK.

For the Biography Project, since I have never attempted it on computers before, I may have to adjust the due dates for the different paragraphs--the students may type faster of slower than I expect.  Please bear with me--if the due dates change, I will try to alert you as soon as possible.

Oh my goodness!  What a beautiful weekend it was, and Monday & Tuesday promise to be just as nice.  Spring Fever anyone?  Oh well, we shall plunge on, so here's what' happening this week:

TUESDAY--This will be the LAST DAY IN CLASS for your student to read his/her biography silently.  The date your student needs to COMPLETE READING HIS/HER BIOGRAPHY IS THIS THURSDAY.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START--Ms. Benek will come in for a "Say It Straight" lesson, SO NO HOMEWORK (Unless the biography has not been completely read).

THURSDAY--MICROSCOPE WORD SEARCH IS DUE.  After the class brainstorms a list of character traits, your student will identify three character traits possessed by the person their biography is about.  This is to be done in list form.  This list is DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Ms. Benek will be here for a "Say It Straight" lesson, so NO HOMEWORK.

Just in case you weren't aware, Thursday, April 21st is our EVENING OF EXCELLENCE.  If you have received an invitation, your student will be honored.  The celebration will be held IN THE TMS GYM STARTING AT 6:00 P.M.  Please make every effort to make this wonderful event--our students have worked hard, and it is sure a pleasure to recognize their accomplishments.  If you are not sure if your student will be recognized, please call the Office (360-264-3600) or email or call me and I will make every effort to find out.  Hopefully, I will see you there.

As mentioned above, Wednesday is a LATE START DAY, so hopefully you have planned accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  The best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Academy Plans for April 11th through 15th, 2016

Greetings!

No, I did not fall off the face of the Earth, but I came mighty close.  Hope you enjoyed the Spring Break, and that your student has his/her batteries all recharged and is ready to plunge on into the remaining trimester.  Also, I hope you enjoyed the "Student Led Conferences" as much as I did--they were terrific this year.  Now on to this week's plans--

MONDAY--Students will research New Zealand.  This is HOMEWORK, DUE TUESDAY.

TUESDAY--Each student will select his/her biography for our next project, so NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--Ms. Benek will be coming in for our "Say It Straight" lesson, so NO HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY--Students will be reading their biographies silently in class, so NO HOMEWORK.

As I said above, I greatly enjoyed the Student Led Conferences.  Thank you for getting YOUR homework done (the "Parent/Guardian Surveys").  If you have not yet completed and/or turned yours in, please do so ASAP.  Thank you.

I am hoping the grades this last trimester will be your student's best of the year.  Because I have no commitments for the rest of the year (No volleyball, no Outdoor School, no Knowledge Bowl), I will be free after school most days.  So if your student needs to stay after to make up a lab, retake a test, or needs help with a homework assignment, we can make that happen.  I only ask for 24 hours notice--just in case I have some other commitment.

Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns.  The best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

MONDAY--Students will review what they have learned in the Microscope Unit so far, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--Students will begin Microscope Lesson #9, so NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--Students will complete Microscope Lesson #9 and will begin working on the Review Word Search.  Microscope Lesson #9 will be DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD.  The Microscope Word Search will be DUE MONDAY.

THURSDAY--Students will begin Microscope Lesson #10, so NO HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--Students will complete Microscope Lesson #10 and it will be DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD. Then they will work on the Microscope Word Search which is DUE MONDAY.

Next week we will complete the Microscope Unit.  This will entail THREE SEPARATE EXAMS.  One is a WRITTEN TEST (NEXT THURSDAY), while the other two are "practical lab tests" that your student will complete in class (Monday and Tuesday). We will review in class for the written test on Wednesday, but your student may want to get a "head start" by STUDYING OVER THE WEEKEND.  The best material to study are the class handouts.  Your student should be in possession of eight of these (Lessons 1-8) because I have already returned them to your student IF THEY WERE TURNED IN.  The remaining two will be handed back to your student on Monday.  Hope this long-term information helps.  These exams are NOT very hard, IF YOUR STUDENT STUDIES.

I'm hoping the grades this last trimester will be your student's best of the year.
