WEDNESDAY--4th & 5th period Classes:  Students continued to work on the "Frog Dissection".  1st & 3rd period classes did not meet, so NO HOMEWORK, but the "Frog Dissection Worksheet" is DUE THURSDAY for 1st, 3rd, and 4th period classes.

THURSDAY--1st, 3rd, and 4th period classes:  Complete the "Frog Dissection" and TURN IN THE WORKSHEET.  5th period class does not meet.

FRIDAY--1st, 3rd, and 4th period classes do not meet.  5th period class:  Complete the "Frog Dissection" and TURN IN THE WORKSHEET.  NO HOMEWORK.

Hopefully you have gotten in to see your student's Student Led Conference.  This is my second favorite week of school (Outdoor School is the best!)  I have totally enjoyed myself and this year's presentations have been outstanding!  If you haven't made arrangements for yours, it's still not too late.  Call to set up an appointment on Thursday.

I'm sure I don't have to remind you that we have Spring Break next week, April 2nd through 6th.  I'll bet everyone is looking forward to this--I know I am!

As always, if you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please contact me.  The phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644 and the best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

7th Grade Science Plans for March 19th through 23rd, 2018

Greetings!

What a busy week!  Hope you are looking forward to the "Student Led Conferences" that will take place Tuesday through Thursday with Tuesday being reserved for our evening conferences.  Remember:  YOUR student will be leading the conferences, and hopefully you have already called and set up your conference time.  They are REQUIRED for the students, so even if you can't attend, your student will present theirs to a staff member and will be videotaped.  Then that will be sent to you.  However, I will tell you from past experience, they are much better in person.

Now on to this week's plans:

MONDAY--After taking a pre-test, students will take notes on parts of a flower in their Science Notebooks.  NO HOMEWORK, but SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE FRIDAY.

TUESDAY--Students will take notes in their Science Notebooks on flower pollination.  NO HOMEWORK but SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE FRIDAY.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START DAY--Students will watch a video on flowers, so NO HOMEWORK but SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE FRIDAY.

THURSDAY--Students will add notes to their Science Notebooks on flower fertilization, so NO HOMEWORK but SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Students will engage in a flower dissection.  NO HOMEWORK, but SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE.

As you noticed above, I would like to do a "Flower Dissection" on Friday.  I am planning on using daffodils and will need approximately 25-28 of them.  If you have any you could donate by Friday, that would be greatly appreciated. At this time of year, many people have them blooming in their yards, or they are relatively cheap and easy to obtain at the stores.  Thank you for your generosity in advance.

Also, you probably noticed my fixation with the Science Notebooks, as listed above.  We have done A LOT (over 25 assignments) in them this term, so they will by worth 200 points this quarter.  I gave students the "list" of the assignments and gave them two days to work on them in class last week.  Please review your student's Science Notebook with the list to make sure it is all caught up.  I will be available after school tomorrow (Tuesday) until 4:30 p.m.  Unfortunately I can only stay until 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. If you would like your child to work on his/her Science Notebook after school at any of those times, I would welcome it.  Thank you for your support on this matter.

I'm sure you have already made arrangements for the "LATE START DAY on Wednesday this week, right?

Please contact me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns you may have.  The phone number in my classroom is 360-264-3644 and the best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Now on to this week's plans:

MONDAY--Student groups will practice their "Organ Systems Slide Show" in their groups.  No homework, however the PRESENTATIONS WILL BE TUESDAY.

TUESDAY--Student groups will give their "Organ Systems Slide Show".  NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START DAY--Preparation will begin for the "Frog Dissection", so NO HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY--Students will work on their "Frog Dissection", so NO HOMEWORK.

I'm sure you have already made arrangements for the "LATE START DAY on Wednesday this week, right?

As for the "Frog Dissection"--this activity will take us three-four class days.  It is voluntary; any student who does not wish to participate will be given a substitute assignment.  Students will be allowed to pick their lab partner for this project.  If you can send an old shirt to cover clothing with, that would be ideal.  Now, here's the "biggie":  In order to participate, YOUR STUDENT MUST BE RECEIVING A PASSING GRADE--that means a "D" or higher.  I will be staying after school until 4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, March 20th), but can only stay until 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.  You might want to discuss this with your student.  It is a GREAT opportunity, and I hate to see any student miss it because they have not taken care of their academic responsibilities.

Please contact me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns you may have.  The phone number in my classroom is 360-264-3644 and the best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

As you can see, the 100 point "Cells Post Test" has been entered into Skyward.  I was disappointed.  It was an easy test to study for and your student had several resources like "Quizlet", the practice test we took in class, and the study sheet he/she made in class.  I will be contacting some of you this week about Saturday School to study for and retake this test.
