7th Grade Science Plans for May 30th though June 3rd, 2017

Greetings!

What a beautiful holiday weekend!  And, boy, did the kids come in tired today.  A good time must have been had by all.  So here are the plans for this week:

MONDAY--MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY--NO SCHOOL

TUESDAY--We will begin Investigation 4.3.  So, NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--Students will watch a video on gravity, so NO HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY--We will complete Investigation 4.3.  NO HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--Students will complete the TEST ON CHAPTER/LESSON 4.  It will be DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD, so again, NO HOMEWORK.

I have noticed some students have developed a "short timer's" attitude when it comes to school.  This is not wise.  Please discuss with your student the fact that we have nearly four weeks of school left, and I certainly do not plan on wasting a moment of this instructional time.  This means there will be several more assignments, tests, activities, and/or other graded assignments, which could really affect a student's grade.  Many of the students have indicated they intend to participate in school sports when they return next fall.  As a coach, I know that ONE "F" ON A REPORT CARD =  TWO WEEKS OF INELIGIBILITY, AND TWO OR MORE "F's" = THREE WEEKS OF INELIGIBILITY.  This is NOT when practice starts, which will be BEFORE the school year starts.  It will begin from the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.  This could result in missing some of the first competitions in his/her sport.  I would hate to see you pay the Sports Fee and not get your money's worth.  Besides, no going on vacation early in my class!

If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please contact me.  The best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,

7th Grade Science Plans for May 22nd through 26th, 2017

Greetings!

Wow!  What wonderful weather we're having.  Sure glad we have air conditioning.  So to weather this weather, here's what we will be doing this week:

MONDAY--Students will prepare for Investigation 4.2, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--SBA Math PT Testing.  NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--Students will complete the worksheets they began in class last week.  These will be DUE FRIDAY.  Students will have work time on these FOUR WORKSHEETS Wednesday & Thursday.  However, you should consider them HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY--Work time on the FOUR WORKSHEETS.  DUE FRIDAY, they are HOMEWORK.

FRIDAY--Students will work on Investigation 4.2, so  NO HOMEWORK.

Just a reminder with these warm temperatures:  With your student you might want to review the "Dress Code" in the Student Handbook you received at the beginning of the school year.  Shorts must be below the middle finger when hanging down along the thighs.  Strapless tops and spaghetti straps are not allowed, and tank tops must be at least three inches wide on the shoulders.  Please make your student aware that his/her job is school, and he/she should dress "professionally" for it.  Thank you for your support.

This is the last week of our State Testing (SBA Math PT).  For seventh graders this will happen on Tuesday, May 23rd, and will probably carry over to Wednesday, May 24th.  Please make sure your student is well rested, and has had a good breakfast on "Test Day".  These scores could affect your student's placement in his/her classes next year, so we want him/her to do their best.

I'm sure you're aware that Memorial Day takes place next Monday, May 29th, and there is NO SCHOOL.  Hope you have some fun family plans in the works!

As always, please contact me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns you may have.  The best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful (but not too warm) week,
Michele Humble

Furthermore, I'm sure you know Tuesday is a SBA CAT MATH TEST DAY.  Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and has a good breakfast so he/she is "loaded and locked" to take on the rigors of that assessment.

FYI, I will not be at school on Thursday and Friday this week.  I have a really good substitute teacher lined up, as usual, so there should be no problem.

6th Grade Science Test Update

TEST ALERT!

The exam that was originally scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, May 11th) has been moved to Friday, May 12th.  Please help your student study by going over the parts of a microscope by name, explaining how the power of magnification is calculated, the eight "Characteristics of Life"  (should be in your child's Science Notebook), knowing how to define something as living or nonliving, and calculating the size of a Field of View and a specimen on it.  We will be reviewing these things in class on Thursday.

Thanks for your help,
Michele Humble
