6th Grade Science Plans for September 26th through 30th, 2016

Greetings!

Hope you are enjoying this lovely weather!  Hope it lasts until at least Outdoor School.  So here's what's happening this week:

MONDAY--Students will go over the lab safety rules, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--Students will go practice measuring in class, so NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY--Students will work the "Measurement Lab".  It should be completed and turned in by the end of the period, so DUE THURSDAY.

FRIDAY--Students will review the lab from Wednesday & Thursday, so NO HOMEWORK.

Just in case you missed it, the PARENTS/GUARDIAN INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON OUTDOOR SCHOOL (Cispus), will be held at Tenino Middle School THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH AT 7:00 P.M. IN THE COMMONS.  Please plan on attending with any questions you may have.  If for some reason you cannot attend, an informational packet will be sent home with your student on Friday, September 30th.  Please get the paperwork in as soon as possible.

I am rather dismayed at how few of the signed syllabus I have received back.  This is a complete description of how the classroom is run, what the curriculum consists of, Humble Bucks, making up work, etc.  In short, it is everything you need to know about how my classroom is run.  Please look carefully on your student's progress report to see if it was turned in.  If not, please request another one, look it over, sign it, and return it to me.  It is a  VERY IMPORTANT DOCUMENT.  Thank you.

Please encourage your student to get some pledges for our "Fund Run".  Instead of selling gift wrap, popcorn, candy, or magazines, this is our school fundraiser for the year, and ALL of the money goes into the A.S.B. fund.  Hopefully, your student brought the packet home Friday, and you've had a chance to look through it.  Three of the forms (Parent Pledge for T-Shirt, Business Sponsorship, & Volunteer) are due this Friday, September 30th if your student is going to participate.

As usual, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me ASAP.  The phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644 and the best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a wonderful week,

Academy Plans for September 19th through 23rd, 2016

Greetings and welcome to Week #3 of TMS!

We are easing into the school year with much success so far.  Please look carefully at your student's grades in this progress report, and discuss any missing work with him/her.  Here are the plans for this week:

MONDAY--We will cover taking "Cornell Notes" in class.  Students will practice this on a Scientific Method video, and these notes will be due at the end of the period, so NO HOMEWORK.

TUESDAY--Students will continue to work on the penmanship unit.  Penmanship WorkSheet 12 & 13 is HOMEWORK DUE WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START DAY--Students will elect their class officers, so NO HOMEWORK.

THURSDAY--Students will work on Penmanship WS 14 & 15--this will be HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Students will work on Penmanship WS 16 & 17, HOMEWORK DUE TUESDAY.

Please plan on attending the PARENT/GUARDIAN OUTDOOR SCHOOL MEETING on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH at 7:00 P.M. in the Commons at TMS.  It is an informational meeting on our Sixth Grade Outdoor School program at Cispus.  It is time for you to ask questions, fill out forms, and find out what our program involves.  Hope to see you there!

Your student has now been issued a Chromebook, and if the requirements have been met (annual $25 insurance fee, online slide presentation & accompanying quiz, user sheet has been signed by both parent & student and has been turned in) your student is bringing it home.  We will be easing into its use in the various classrooms, so please be on the lookout for those activities.
Also, please be aware that this Wednesday will be our first LATE START DAY.  Hopefully, you have already made arrangements for this.

If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please contact me as soon as possible.  The best email address is:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is:  (360) 264-3644.  I would recommend you not use Skyward to contact any of your student's teachers; using the District email addresses is far quicker (teacher last name, first initial @tenino.k12.wa.us).

Have a wonderful week,

With more than half of my Seventh Grade Science Class involved in school sports, I would like to remind him/her that grades can impact eligibility. A failing grade in any class results in the student-athlete not being able to play in a game/match.  Please remind your student to take care of his/her assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests to remind eligible.

Also, please be aware that this Wednesday will be our first LATE START DAY.  Hopefully, you have already made arrangements for this.
