Art Plans for April 28th through May 2nd, 2014

Greetings!

So the nice weather is supposed to arrive on Wednesday--let's hope so.  I think we are all getting a little tired of five minutes of sunshine followed by fifteen minutes of rain/wind/hail/etc.  We begin the "Smarter Balanced" testing this week, but I don't think this will affect our 6th period Art class; I believe all students will be done testing by then.  Now on to this week's plans:

MONDAY--We should be completing our "Tenino Wooden Money" project with Mari Evans today.  So that will be the first project I will grading in Art for this quarter.  No homework unless your student has not completed the project.

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, & THURSDAY--We will resume our Scratch Art project.  This will be due Friday.

FRIDAY--We will begin our Felt Symmetry project.  No homework.

As always, please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.  My classroom phone number is (360) 264-3644 and my email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a great week,
Michele Humble

Greetings!

So the nice weather is supposed to arrive on Wednesday--let's hope so.  I think we are all getting a little tired of five minutes of sunshine followed by fifteen minutes of rain/wind/hail/etc.  Now on to this week's plans:

This will be a "Smarter Balanced" testing week on Monday & Tuesday, so don't look for any homework on those days.

WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, & FRIDAY--Students will work on their Poetry Book project.  We are working on this in class, so there is no homework--yet.  However, students may work on this project at home if they wish.

So now for the BIG NEWS!  Whenever I ask the sixth graders if they want the good or bad news first, they pick the bad.  So, the BAD NEWS is that you will need to have your sixth grader to school at 7:00 A.M. ON TUESDAY, MAY 6TH.  Now the good news is why.  On that day, we will be going to downtown Seattle to Benaroya Hall to see the National Geographic production of "Life in Space".  There will be no cost to the students, but they will need to bring a sack lunch.  We want to leave at 7:00 a.m. because the production starts at 10:30 a.m.  The show will last about an hour.  We will then eat lunch and head for home.  We should arrive back in time for the students to take their regular buses home.  Now, more big news:  I AM IN NEED OF FIVE TO SEVEN CHAPERONS.  If you are interested please call [Office-(360)264-3600 or my classroom (360) 264-3644] or email me (humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us)  You will need to have all of the volunteer forms filled out and filed prior to the event.  I am really excited about this opportunity for our students--it will fit in with our Space unit in Science, and will give them a chance to see "The Emerald City" up close and personal.

As always, please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have,

This will be a "Smarter Balanced" testing week on Monday & Tuesday, so don't look for any homework on those days.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY--Students will receive a list of 21 vocabulary words plus a diagram of the solar system to put into their Science Notebooks.  This will be due on Friday, and they will have time in class to work on these both days.

FRIDAY--Either a lab or Space video.  I want to see what the climate of the building testing dictates.  Either way, no homework.

MONDAY--Students will be covering Chapter 1 Section 2 and THERE WILL BE HOMEWORK TODAY.  Students will have time to do work on it in class today, but whatever is not completed needs to be done at home tonight--IT IS DUE TOMORROW (Tuesday).

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, & THURSDAY--Mrs. Evans, an art consultant will be coming into our classes these three days to do an art project related to space--Should be fun!  No homework.

FRIDAY--Students will be watching a video on space.  No homework.

As you can see from the attached grade for fourth quarter, with only one assignment, "What you see is what you get".  These are comprehension assignments based on what they've read, so they should be quite easy to do.  Also, as some of you have found out, these kinds of assignments are something you can easily help your child with in case they are stumped by a question.  It's really helpful if your student brings home his/her worksheets and textbook and you even go over the completed work together.  Many of the questions are set up like the testing your student is going to do, so it helps them out there as well.

Have a nice week, and please contact me if you have questions, comments, or concerns,

Academy Plans for the Week of April 14th through 18th, 2014

Greetings!

Wasn't the weather over Spring Break grand?!  Hope you were able to enjoy it; I know I did.  I HOPE this goes through to you as ALL of the grades your student received in the third quarter, but since the ending date has passed, I'm really not sure what you will see.  Here's hoping!  I wanted to let you see what was going to be on your student's report card; it's a "sneak peak" so to speak.  Now here's what this week has/will look like:

MONDAY--We went over the Lit Logs and had time for silent reading (SSR), so no homework.

TUESDAY--Began discussing the Poetry project, so again no homework.

WEDNESDAY--We went over the directions for filling out the first draft for each poem on the Poetry project.  So there will be no homework.

THURSDAY--Students will begin working on the first draft of their Poetry project.  No homework.

FRIDAY--Students will continue to work on the Poetry project.  No homework over the weekend from me, ever.

Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  The phone number in the classroom is (360) 264-3644 and my email address is: humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Enjoy this week,
Michele Humble
