Science & Academy Plans for February 24th through 28th, 2014

Greetings!

No, I have not fallen off the face of the Earth!  It was just that the computer program had turned every student's grade to an "F", and I really didn't want to send out inaccurate progress reports like that.  So thank Mr. Palmer for getting my grade book straightened out.  And Mr. Long assured me that he was even further behind at getting his grades into his grade book--but he might only say that to make me feel better.  So, now, on to this week's work:

SCIENCE--The students have finally finished up the Mixtures & Solutions (Chemistry) test (100 points).  It will take me about one week to get all of those graded, and then at least that long to get the 105 Science Notebooks (another 100 points) graded, so please be patient.  In the meantime, last Thursday students received a HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT and had 2 1/2 days in class to work on it.  THIS ASSIGNMENT (Chapter 2 Worksheets) IS DUE ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH.  Please check to make sure your student has completed this work.  Also, this week we will start our Microscope Unit.  Most of the work will be through labs, but there are a couple of homework assignments and several tests & quizzes.  I will try to give you plenty of time to study for them.

ACADEMY--We are continuing to work on the Figurative Speech Unit, and it looks like the TEST WILL BE THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH.  Please help your student study for this.  It's not hard, but they should be able to tell the six figures of speech apart (Similes, Metaphors, Personification, Onomatopoeia, Alliteration, and Hyperbole).  Each student has a "practice sheet" on each one of these figures of speech, so there is no excuse not to study.  There is a slight chance the test will be pushed back to Monday or Tuesday, but plan for this Friday.

Please contact me ASAP with any questions or concerns you may have.  I can be reached by email at humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or by phone at (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble

Art Plans for February 17th through 21st, 2014

Greetings!

I hope you enjoyed the four day Mid-Winter Break, and no, I have not fallen off of the face of the earth!  The Knowledge Bowl season is now over, so I will try to be more timely.  I will, however, be gone Thursday & Friday, and the students already know that I will have a sub.  Here are this week's plans:

ART--Tuesday & Wednesday we will discuss the six elements of Art, so there will be no homework or class projects.  Thursday the students are to complete missing assignments, especially the Harlem Renaissance Magazine worksheet.  If they use their time wisely, everything should get done.  Depending on the progress we make on Thursday, there MAY be an assignment on Friday, but if so, it will NOT be due on Monday (more like Tuesday).  I fully expect that the activities of Thursday will carry over onto Friday.

Please contact me (email--humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or phone--(360) 264-3644) if you have any questions and/or concerns.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble

Art Schedule for the Week of February 3rd through 7th, 2014

Greetings!

I know this is not really a progress report; the students have not turned in any work yet, but I wanted to start out Quarter #3 on time.  I believe the report cards will be mailed out this week, so please be on the lookout for them.  So below is what we will be doing this week:

ART--We are still working on a project that has carried over from last quarter, "Create-A-Creature", so that will be our focus this week.  Monday through Wednesday, students will work on the artwork (in oil pastels), the text (a narrative describing their creature), and then on Thursday they will decorate the frame.  Friday, when I am gone, they will read our Art magazine for February (no homework).

The students already know that I will be gone on Friday, February 7th (training in Seattle).  Also, remember that next Wednesday is a "Late Start" day, and there is no school Friday, February 14th through Monday, February 17th.  Enjoy the midwinter break.  As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns,

The Week of February 3rd to 7th, 2014

Greetings!

I know this is not really a progress report; the students have not turned in any work yet, but I wanted to start out Quarter #3 on time.  I believe the report cards will be mailed out this week, so please be on the lookout for them.  So below is what we will be doing this week:

SCIENCE--No homework this week, but there will be a QUIZ ON FRIDAY (2/7).  We have labs on Monday & Wednesday, and discussions & notes to take on Tuesday & Thursday.  Now here's the "biggie":  the end of the unit TEST WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY, February 12th.  It will be WORTH 100 POINTS.  Please help your student begin studying for this right away, don't wait until Tuesday night.  The best thing he/she can do is bring home his/her Science Notebook.  While it is there, please go over it for completeness.  SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS WILL BE TURNED IN THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13th.  These will ALSO be WORTH 100 POINTS.  We will spend next Monday & Tuesday reviewing for the test.

ACADEMY--We will continue to make a Lit Log entry this week, but we have also started our "Figurative Speech" unit.  There's a homework assignment on Similes given out in class on Wednesday, due Thursday, and there will be a Metaphors assignment given out in class on Thursday that will be due on Friday.  No homework over the weekend from me, of course.
