Art for the Week of December 9th through 13th

Greetings!

Brrr!!!  Cold enough for you?  Fortunately my classroom is nice and toasty!  With the weather forecast, be sure to stay alert for any school time changes due to snow or ice.  And just a reminder, Wednesday, December 11th, is a LATE START DAY.  Please plan accordingly.

Now on to the events of this week:

ART--We will begin our last project before the holiday break.  About half of the students have finished painting their ornaments, so the rest will complete this project on Monday.  Tuesday we will go over the steps for making etched glass.  Once that is done, it will take about a week to complete the project.  PLEASE SEND A DOLLAR WITH YOUR STUDENT TO COVER THE COST OF THE GLASS.  Students should turn this money into the office.

Have a terrific week, and as always, feel free to contact me [email--humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us  or phone--(360) 264-3644].

ACADEMY--Students will begin the research project on ancient Egypt.  They have selected their topics (be sure to ask your student what he or she chose) and will be researching Monday through Wednesday.  Thursday they will begin to work on the project itself as well as the presentation they will give to the class.  Thanks to the rubrics they created, they will receive ten points per day this week Monday through Thursday.  Friday we will complete decorating our door for the contest.

Art Class Plans for December 2nd through 6th, 2013

Greetings!

Hope your holiday weekend was a good one!  Great time to recharge the batteries and get ready for the next three weeks.  Hopefully some homework was also worked on this weekend.  I am becoming VERY concerned with the amount of assignments that the students are not turning in.  If your student has ANY missing work, please talk to him/her and make sure it gets turned in ASAP.

Now on to this week's plan:

ART--We will complete last week's Christmas Still Life on Monday; this will be due by Wednesday.  Tuesday & Wednesday each student will design & decorate a glass ornament for the school Christmas tree (Our Art class is in charge of decorating it).  Thursday & Friday we will move on to creating another Christmas still life; however, this one will be done in construction paper.  This assignment will be due next Monday.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns.  The best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or call the number in my classroom, which is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,

Now on to this week's plan:

SCIENCE--Monday we will do a lab and Tuesdays students will get back several assignments we will discuss in class.  Wednesday there will be a reading assignment with a comprehension worksheet--THIS WILL BE A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT THAT WILL BE DUE ON THURSDAY.  Thursday we will begin another lab.  If it is not completed on that day, we will get it done on Friday.  If it is completed on one day, we will take an assessment (quiz) in class on Friday.

ACADEMY--There is a HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT ON MONDAY THAT WILL  BE DUE ON TUESDAY.  Students are to create a rubric I will use to evaluate their daily group work.  I really want their input on this, so this one is really important.  Tuesday we will brainstorm research topics and the rest of the week (Wednesday through Friday) students will work in groups doing the research.  So other than Monday night, there won't be any homework.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns.  The best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or call the number in my classroom, which is (360) 264-3644.

Art November 25 through 29, 2013

Greetings!

Just a reminder that this is a short week!  No school on Thursday & Friday, plus Wednesday is an early release day.

Please check over this progress report carefully--all of a sudden students are NOT turning in their assignments.  The grades in this Art class have really "sunk" since the start of the second quarter.  I try to explain to them that even an "F" grade nets them some points, but an assignment not turned in earns nothing.  I think some have "gone on vacation" early, and that can be devastating to to his/her grades.

This week students will be turning in the "tree ornament" he/she worked on last week.  We spent two days on this.  EACH STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PRODUCING AN ORNAMENT.  If he/she did not get the project done in class, IT WAS HOMEWORK.  Look for this grade to be recorded on Tuesday, and please discuss it with your student if you see it has not turned in.

We will also work on a second still life project Monday & Tuesday, so hopefully that will help the grades spring back up.  It will be due at the end of the period on Tuesday, so there will be no homework this week in Art.

Enjoy the Thanksgiving Break,
Michele Humble

SCIENCE--We will finish a lab on Monday, and there will be a homework assignment on Tuesday.  It will be due Wednesday.  No homework on Monday or Wednesday.

ACADEMY--We will go over the Capitalization & Punctuation Test in class.  So there will be NO homework in Academy this week.  As I said earlier, please review those progress reports carefully & look for missing work.

Enjoy the Thanksgiving Break,

November 18th through 22nd, 2013

Greetings!

It's been a good weekend; I am all caught up on my grading.  You can see the results here.  If your student is missing ANY work, such as the Chapter 1 Sections 2, 3, & 4 worksheet for Science, please have him/her get it completed and turned in as soon as possible.  Because we are now on a semester system, you will see his/her work is combined with everything we did in Quarter #1 as well as the work done in this term (Quarter #2).  For some students that is a good thing (if he/she had a high grade in Quarter #1), but for others it can be disheartening (if he/she had a low grade in the first quarter).  Please use Skyward frequently to check your student's grades and progress.

So here is what we will be doing this week:

SCIENCE--Students will complete their models of an atom Monday, or possibly Tuesday if need be.  These will be due Tuesday, and because we have spent so much time on them, this assignment will be worth 50 points.  Tuesday we will begin putting notes in the Science Notebooks, and Wednesday & Thursday we will be doing lab work.  Friday there will be an assessment (quiz), so other than the Atom Model, there won't be homework this week.

ACADEMY--There will be a homework assignment on run-on sentences on Monday that will be due Tuesday.  Also on Tuesday there will be a word search review of the unit; this will be due on Wednesday.  Wednesday there will be an oral review for the TEST--this will be worth 100 points.  The test will take place on Thursday & Friday, so please have your student study, study, study!  He/she should have ALL of the handouts; they will help greatly on this capitalization & punctuation test.

As always, please feel free to contact me via email (humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us) or classroom phone (360-264-3644) if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele M. Humble

November 11th through 15th

Greetings!

I have no idea what these progress reports will look like, because other than the one extra credit point I gave to everyone to start quarter number two, I have no grades to enter.  I would be very curious on your feedback on what you received.  Does this show the grades/assignments from Quarter #1?  Obviously what you see is not what I see on these.

I am sending this mainly to let you know what is happening in my classes this week, so here goes:

SCIENCE--Because there was no school on Monday, and I was gone on Tuesday & Wednesday, it was a perfect time for the students to get caught up on the book work in Chapter 1.  Your student received worksheets for Chapter 1 Sections 2, 3, and 4.  There was work time in class both days, but I believe it probably wasn't enough.  I will survey the students tomorrow (Thursday) to see if I need to change the "due date" (originally it was going to be Thursday).  Because of the band concert, I know my 5th period class was really short changed--they had practice both days during 5th period, so they will get some "comp" time to get caught up.  Also, I forgot to factor in the short periods of today's late start, so we will make things right.  I just didn't want to start a big project (100 points) like the Atom Model without me being there.  We may start that tomorrow, and it will probably take us at least three days to complete.  I should be able to gauge our progress as the week goes on, and should be able to tell you more about this on the weekend.  Please just ask your student to see that Chapter 1 worksheet and check the progress he/she has made on it.  This is really easy to do as homework if your student brings his/her textbook home.

ACADEMY--There will be a short (should have been able to finish it in class today) homework assignment on Wednesday (due Thursday) reviewing the use of quotation marks, hyphens, and apostrophes.  The quiz on these will be on Friday.  Next week we will wrap up this unit (I hope) with the test.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENT START STUDYING NOW.  He/she should have all of the assignments/worksheets we have done on this unit.  There will be two assignments next week (probably one on Monday and another on Wednesday) and the test will probably be given on Thursday.  My guess is that it will take two days.  So please start studying now.

I believe the report cards were printed out and mailed; I'm curious to know if you have received them.  I attended 46 conferences last week and really enjoyed them.  You have some wonderful students, and they are fortunate to have such supportive parents.  As usual, I would love to hear from you if you have any questions and/or concerns.  The best email address to reach me at it humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us and the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Enjoy the week and thank you again for the wonderful conferences,
Michele Humble

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

Greetings!

I sure have enjoyed all of the wonderful conferences this week!  It's been fun to share the achievements and progress of this year's students, as well as the areas that need some work.  Thank you for the great feedback as well as the super support.  I'll bet Quarter #2 will be even better.

I'm sending these progress reports one last time because all of the tweaking is complete.  Plus, we're having some problems with Skyward and it looks like the report cards will be mailed out later than we anticipated.  So now, "What you see IS what you (or in this case, your student) get".  Time to move on to Quarter #2 now.

In Science this week we are starting on our "Atomic Models", so there is NO homework.  In Academy, I am WAY behind--so there won't be any homework here either.  In Art we are working on charcoal drawings, so these will be done exclusively in class--hence no homework there either.   Next week I will be gone both Tuesday & Wednesday, so there will be a substitute teacher.  There will be homework in Science on Tuesday & Wednesday--it will be the Chapter 1 Sections 2, 3, & 4 worksheet.  The students will receive it in class on Tuesday and it will be due on Thursday, so your student will have two evenings to work on it as well as time in class.

Just a reminder that there is no school Monday due to the Veteran's Day holiday, and next Wednesday (November 13th) is a "Late Start" day.  Hope this information helps you plan your week.

Thank you again for the wonderful conferences.  Have a delightful week,
Michele Humble

Final Grades for the First Quarter

Greetings!

Well, we have all survived the first quarter--now it's on to Quarter #2.  These grades, with a few little tweaks will be what will appear on your student's report card.  If you still what to schedule a conference for this week, it's not too late.  Please call the Office (264-3600) as they are doing all of the scheduling.

With the early releases all this week, the classes will only be 22 minutes long, so don't look for any homework this week in Art or Science.  However in Academy, there will be homework, probably on Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly on Thursday. These assignments will count in the second quarter.  I really want to complete this unit on capitalization & punctuation so we can move on.

Enjoy the week, and please contact me if you have any questions or concerns,
Michele Humble

7th & 8th Grade Art for October 28th through November 1st

Greetings!

I see that the 7th & 8th graders survived the week without me--glad to see it.  I just wanted to get in one more email before the end of the quarter.  First of all, EXTRA CREDIT & MISSING WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH.  Please check your student's progress report to make sure nothing is missing.  We will continue to work on projects this week, plus I have three assignments to grade from when I was gone, so your student's grade may change from what it is now to what is printed on his/her report card.

There won't be any homework this week, but as I said before, we will have five more assignments to go into the gradebook before report cards come out.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns you may have.  Also, if you would like to schedule a conference for next week, please contact the TMS Office (360-264-3600) to make that happen.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble
Greetings!

Well, it appears that most of us survived Cispus, at least for the most part.  I think I'm still as tired as the students, but with only four days left in this quarter, we still need to stay on track.  So here's the plans for the remainder of this week:

FIRST OF ALL, NO EXTRA CREDIT OR MISSING WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH.  Please check this progress report to make sure all of your student's work has been turned in thus far.  I won't accept any late or missing work after this Wednesday.

No homework Monday, but there will be assignments Tuesday and Wednesday.  We will be watching a suspenseful movie on both Thursday and Friday, so no homework those days/nights.

As ever, please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  Also, if you would like a conference next week, please contact the Office (360-264-3600) to set one up.

Thursday at Cispus

Greetings!

So here's the Cispus update for today.  The weather continues to be spectacular; it's actually sunny AND warm.  Everybody is still alive and thriving--I guess that survival class is paying off.  The kids are enjoying themselves and our high school students continue to do a spectacular job.  The campfire last night was SO much fun.  Each cabin group did a skit and cadence, and of course "The Mathenator" (Mr. Palmer) tried to scare us all to death with another one of his ghost stories; he was successful.  Mr. Rus Pickett, our superintendent paid us a visit today, and I believe he liked what he saw.  Tonight is the talent night where the sixth graders as well as staff members will have a chance to strut their stuff talent-wise.

We are now sharing Cispus with 60 people from the Brighton School in Lynnwood (I believe), and we have received several compliments from them on how organized and friendly we are.

I will TRY to do an update tomorrow, but no promises.  As we will be breaking camp, things will be hectic, so I might not have time.  Also, I apologize for not posting any new grades.  I brought a whole mountain of papers up here to grade, but somehow I have been much too busy.  Maybe this weekend if I regain consciousness by Sunday.

Hopefully your student has transportation home other than riding the school bus tomorrow.  He/she will be exhausted, and battling a bus ride home under those conditions with a sleeping bag & luggage will be taxing.  We should be arriving between 2:15 and 2:45, and the luggage will arrive before us.

See you soon,
Michele Humble

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Greetings!

Just thought you might like an update about how things are going up here at Cispus.  (Sorry, no real grade updates--that probably won't happen until I return and sleep all weekend.)  The bus ride up was uneventful--fortunately.  The weather has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL--we couldn't ask for better.  Those of you down in the "gray" should be jealous because we've had nothing but warm temps & sunshine.  The high school counselors are top notch and are doing a fantastic job.  The classes have run smoothly, and hopefully everyone is learning a lot.  Most importantly the sixth graders are having a terrific time.  Lots of activity in the classes (especially the "Challenge Course") and recreation.  The campfire was awesome last night, and the students were in bed at a reasonable time for the first night (boys making flatulent noises and the girls with a bit of drama--I'll bet you recognize which one is yours) and everyone is staying healthy.  The food is good and the kids are getting plenty of it, so overall I would say we're off to a fine start.  You will hear plenty of stories this weekend, I'm sure.  Hopefully you were able to make arrangements for transportation for your student on Friday, we will be returning at about 2:30.

Have a great week, because so far we are,
Michele Humble

October 14th through 18th for Academy

Greetings!

I sure hope you enjoyed the three day break!  This week we will continue to work on the "Capitalization & Punctuation" unit.  You can expect homework Monday evening, Tuesday evening, Wednesday evening, a review on Thursday night, and another quiz on Friday.

Hope this helps planning for your week,
Michele Humble

October 14th through 18th for Art

Greetings!

Hope you had a great three day break.  As you can see, we finished the "Elements of Art" booklets.  They were due Thursday, October 10th, so if your student is missing any of the pages, or the cover, please encourage him/her to get the work completed and turned in.  Now on to what we will be doing this week:

We are now moving on to pencil sketching.  Everyday this week we will work on sketching a different item in pencil.  The work will be due at the end of each period, so don't look for any homework this week.  However, there will be plenty of work--each day will be worth 20 points.

Have a great week, and as always, if you have any questions of concerns, please feel free to contact me at (360) 264-3644 or email address:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us.

Have a wonderful week,

October 14th through 18th for Science

Greetings!

The Fund(d) Run certainly lived up to its name on Wednesday; the weather was terrific and I believe a good time was had by all.  Please remind your students to collect those pledges; it would be great if they could all be turned in by Wednesday.

Hopefully your student brought home his/her student handbook for outdoor school yesterday (they received them on Thursday).  Please go over it a bit this weekend, but remember that your student will need to bring them back on Monday (and possibly for Tuesday too), because we have not finished going over them in class yet.

Now here are some jobs I could use help with in preparing for outdoor school:

I need someone to go to "Spinning Tees" (on Harrison in West Olympia) Tuesday afternoon and pick up our 130 shirts.

I also need them washed.  (Sorry, that's a "biggie"!)

Two parents to "screen" the acts for "Talent Night".  This could be either Tuesday & Wednesday or Wednesday & Thursday.  If you know Melanie Hisaw or Sherry Beardslee, they did it last year.  I could put you in contact with them.

If you can do any of these tasks, would you please call my cell phone [(360) 481-1178] ASAP.  I really like to get things nailed down as soon as possible.

And now for some "thank you's":

Sara Rogers for sorting the t-shirt order forms

Carrie Pederson for assembling the student handbooks

Debbie Cline for volunteering to inventory the "tubs" (educational supplies) that will be going up with us

PLEASE HAVE ALL PERMISSION/EMERGENCY FORMS FOR OUTDOOR SCHOOL TURNED IN TO THE SCHOOL BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16TH.  Please try to have the money turned in by Friday, October 18th.

Now for this week's Science:

Monday--We will finish going through the student handbook for outdoor school. (I hope this will only take one day.)*

Tuesday--We will review the "Diet Coke & Mentos" lab, then add a variable to it.  This will require a short (one page) follow up; they didn't do very well on conclusions, so I want to revisit that concept.  THIS WILL BE HOMEWORK.

Wednesday--We will finish up the Chapter 1 Section 1 Worksheet.  THIS IS DUE ON THURSDAY; IT IS HOMEWORK.

Thursday--We will watch a video on the three states of matter.*

Friday--We will begin reading Chapter 1 Section 2.*

*=No homework day.

Have a great weekend & please feel free to contact me with questions and/or concerns,
Michele Humble

Sunday, October 6, 2013

Don't forget the Fun(d) Run.  It will take place on Wednesday, October 9th in the afternoon (6th & 7th periods).  Hopefully your student has done his/her fair share of supporting our school by collecting pledges. The money collected will go to many of our worthwhile activities and goes directly for student use.  If you have time to help out, I believe it is not too late to volunteer.  Contact the Office (264-3600) for more information.  Thank you!
Greetings!

Hopefully you enjoyed this beautiful weekend, I know I did.  I was able to get caught up on grading the Elements of Art book we have been working on these past few weeks.  Unfortunately several of the students didn't turn them in at all, and several are behind in their work.  Please encourage your student to get caught up on this very important project.  This week we will finish up this project with the "Value" and "Space" pages; it will probably take the entire week.

Just a few other reminders:  Wednesday is a "Late Start" day, so hopefully you have made arrangements for this.  Wednesday is also our fund raiser--the "Fun(d) Run".  Hopefully your student has received some pledges that will support our many activities throughout the year.  Finally, Friday there is no school at all.  Who knows, maybe the weather will be as nice as it was this past weekend.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (360) 264-3644 or humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Michele Humble
Greetings!

It was so heartening to see parents/guardians of 56 of our 102 sixth graders at the Outdoor School meeting.  We have already received payment for 26 of those students, and shirt orders & permission/emergency forms from 55.  Please remember I need those shirt order forms by this Thursday as that is the day I must get the order in.  Students will be receiving their Student Handbooks this week--I'm aiming for Tuesday, but it may be as late as Thursday.  Please keep an eye open for them.
Also remember that Wednesday is a Late Start Day, so hopefully you are prepared for that.  And there is no school at all on Friday, October 11th.  (Hopefully the weather next weekend will be as nice as it was this past one, although I don't want to use up all of the good weather for October--need to save some for our time up at Outdoor School.)

Now onto the rest of this week's "news":

SCIENCE--We will finish two videos on Monday and I should be returning the Lab Reports on the "Mentos & Diet Coke" lab we did last week.  I hope to have those grades entered by Thursday.  There won't be any homework this week in Science as we are going to go over the Student Handbook for Outdoor School.

ACADEMY--Monday students will receive work back from last week, so we will review their first quiz (capitalization & ending punctuation) and will prepare for the next one.  This will be on commas & colons, and will take place on Wednesday.  Look for homework in the form of a review worksheet on Tuesday.  PLEASE HELP YOUR STUDENT STUDY FOR THIS QUIZ.

Enjoy the week & as always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns,
Michele Humble

Just a reminder:  The Cispus Outdoor School Meeting is 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 1st in the middle school Commons.  Please plan on attending if at all possible.

Art for the Week of September 30th to October 4th

Greetings!

Hope this windy, wet weather doesn't have you too bogged down; it's the first of much more, I'm afraid.  Just a few odds & ends before I get to the Art for the week.  We have started to gear up for our fundraiser--the "Fun(d) Run".  It will take place on Wednesday, October 9th in the afternoon.  Hopefully your student has begun to collect pledges, which will go directly into the A.S.B. account.  This money goes directly to activities that impact our students, such as sports' uniforms, transportation for Outdoor School, prizes for contests, etc.  Please encourage your student to participate in this worthwhile event.  This upcoming week is "Spirit Week", so dressing up will be the order of the day.  Here's the schedule:  Monday--"Pajama Day", Tuesday--"Everyone Counts Day" (dress up in a jersey with a number on it), Wednesday--"Crazy Hair Day", Thursday--"Super Hero Day", and Friday--"Black & White Day" (6th graders wear white, 7th graders wear black, and 8th graders wear black & white).  There are prizes for outstanding participants, so please encourage your student to participate.

For Art this week, we will continue to work on the "Elements of Art"  book.  This is a big project, and it will take us several weeks to complete it.  Right now your student should have completed the title page as well as the page for "Line".  Monday we will begin to work on "Shape", Tuesday on "Form", and Wednesday on "Color" (this one will take us through the end of the week).  Please ask your student if you can take a look at what has been completed so far.

As always, please feel free to contact me.  The phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644 and my email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble

The Week of September 30th to October 4th

Greetings!

Hope this windy, wet weather doesn't have you down.  Also hope to see you at the Cispus Outdoor School Meeting on Tuesday, October 1st at 7:00 P.M. in the Commons at the middle school.  Lots of information and forms to fill out.  Another little reminder, we at the middle school have started working on our fund raiser, the "Fun(d) Run".  Hopefully your student is gathering some pledges for this run/walk-a-thon.  It is our fund raiser for the A.S.B. account which funds things such as transportation to Cispus, uniforms, prizes for various contests, etc.  So please do what you can to encourage your student to participate.  One last thing, this is "Spirit Week", so dressing up will be the norm.  Monday is "Pajama Day", Tuesday's "Everyon Counts" (Wear a jersey with a number on it), Wednesday is "Crazy Hair Day", Thursday is "Super Hero Day", and Friday is "Black & White Day" (6th graders are to wear all white).  Students really get into this, and there will be prizes for participation.

Now on to this week's plans:

SCIENCE--We will continue to work on labs this week; the "Candy & Liquid" and the "Wind Up Toys" labs, so there will be no homework.  Please check your student's grade, however, because there have been several missing assignments, and even one can really bring your student's grade down.

ACADEMY--We're working on the "Capitalization & Punctuation" unit now, with the first assignment (Capitalization WS) in the grade book.  We will correct the other two (End Punctuation WS & Retro (review) WS) on Monday--those were all due last week.  TUESDAY WE WILL TAKE THE FIRST QUIZ ON THOSE CONCEPTS.  Please help your student study on Monday night.  There will be homework Wednesday (Commas WS) and Thursday (Colons WS).  Each of those will be due the following day.  No homework over the weekend from me, of course.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns.  (Classroom phone number:  (360) 264-3644 and email address:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us)

Just a reminder:  The Parent Meeting for Outdoor School (Cispus) will be held Tuesday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the Commons at the Middle School.  If you have a 6th grader at Tenino Middle School, please plan on attending!
Greetings!

I'm sorry this is a little late, I've been swamped this week because we've been so busy.  Please forgive me.  As much as I'd like to say this will never happen again, I know better--Sigh!  Now on to the important info for this week & next:

THE PARENT MEETING FOR OUTDOOR SCHOOL (Cispus) WILL BE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1st AT 7:00 P.M. IN THE COMMONS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.  Please plan on attending if at all possible.  It should last about an hour and Mrs. Dozois and I will be presenting.  Hopefully we will be able to answer all of your questions at this time.  There will be handouts, necessary forms, and we will be able to accept payment ($75) at this time.  Hope to see you there!

SCIENCE--We will be doing mostly in class work this week, with the exception of one homework assignment on Thursday; it  will be due on Friday.  Monday & Tuesday students are working on teams in the Measurement Lab.  Wednesday they will finish that up and/or will receive their Science textbooks.  This is where the homework assignment comes in--it is the "Book Damage Sheet".  They will need to go through their textbooks to look for and report damage.  On Thursday we will (hopefully) work on the "Tiger Lab" and Friday we will begin working on the first of the Scientific Method labs.

ACADEMY--We are beginning to work on our unit on Capitalization & Punctuation (Mr. Long's Language Arts pre-test showed there was a real need for this).  Look for homework Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday evenings.  We will correct all of these in class on Friday.  I try VERY hard NOT to give homework over the weekends.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  The phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644 and the best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a wonderful week,

Greetings Parents & Guardians of My Art Students!

Sorry this has been a bit late--I've been swamped.  Sorry, I know I rarely accept that excuse from the students, but......  I'd like to say it won't happen again, but I know better.  Now, on to what we're doing this week.

We are beginning a huge project--our "Elements of Art" book.  This will take us about three weeks.  It will be worth A LOT of points (200), so please keep tabs on your student's progress on it.  There is rarely homework in Art if your child uses his/her time wisely.  Ask your student to show you his/her daily progress on the "Elements of Art".

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  The phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644 and the best email address to reach me at is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble

Third Week of Middle School

Well, it looks like we've survived the first two weeks of school!  Now it's on to the third.  Here are some bits of information you may need to be aware of:

  • Outdoor School will be Tuesday, October 22nd through Friday, October 25th.  There will be a parent information night in early October.  We will cover the curriculum, what your student will need to bring, who will be there, and any other questions you may have.  I will let you know ASAP of the time and date.  The cost this year will be $75.  You may pay at any time--please make checks payable to Tenino Middle School.
  • This week your student will be participating in the MAP testing.  This will take place Wednesday, September 18th and Thursday, September 19th.  We will be taking Reading and Math tests.
  • School pictures were taken Friday, September 13th.  If your student missed these, there will be retakes later on.

In Science this week we will be doing more practice on note taking, review the Scientific Method, will cover Lab Safety, and will participate in activities that include observing and stereotyping.  Although there will be in class assignments, there should not be any homework in Science this week.

Please review the three assignments your student has done in Science so far.  If any of them are missing, your student's grade will really plunge.  Please insure that your child turns in the work.

As always, please contact me with any questions.  My classroom phone number is (360) 264-3644 and the best email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us

Have a delightful week,
Michele Humble

Welcome to Tenino Middle School!  I'm very excited about this school year, and hopefully you are, too!  Here are a few important things that may help you out:

  • Our open house is planned for Tuesday, September 3rd.  It will start in the gym at 5:30 should end at 7:00.  It is an opportunity to meet the staff, pick up your student's schedule, try out the lockers, pay for lunches, P.E. uniforms, & outdoor school.  The PTA will be there selling ice cream sandwiches, and you will have the opportunity to join (membership is $12 this year).  Hope to see you there.
  • The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 4th.  The building will be open at 7:30 and the first bell will ring at 8:17 a.m.  The day is over at 2:50 p.m.
  • Since I will have your student for Science, please have him/her bring a composition notebook the first day of class--thank you!
  • Finally, the "biggie":  Outdoor School at Cispus will begin Tuesday, October 22nd and we will return Friday, October 25th.  There will be a parent/guardian meeting in early in October with all the details.  You may pay the tuition ($75) at open house, if you wish.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime with questions, comments, and concerns; the phone number in my classroom is (360) 264-3644 or my email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us
