Art Plans for November 24th through 28th, 2014

Greetings!

Sorry I'm a day late--being gone two days last week was certainly not in my plans!  I'm still digging out, grade-wise, but should catch up by the end of the "Turkey Day" weekend.  So here's what to expect for this very short week:

MONDAY--Students will work on pencil drawings showing overlapping with a fruit still life.  Due at the end of the period; no homework.

TUESDAY--Students will work on a pencil sketch of an item they bring from home.  This will be due at the end of the period.  No homework.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START--Students will begin to make their mask of paper mache'.  This will be done in class, so there will be no homework from me over the long weekend.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY--NO SCHOOL

I'm very concerned with how the grades of some my Art students are dropping.  Some of them don't seem to be taking the class too seriously. (Maybe I started off too easy?)  Please look very closely at your student's grade and if he/she has any missing assignments, and discuss this with him/her.  I hate to see a poor habit begin, especially in such talented students.

Enjoy the long weekend, and as always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have (email address:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or classroom phone number:  (360) 264-3644).

Academy Plans for November 24th through 28th, 2014

Greetings!

Sorry I'm a day late--being gone two days last week was certainly not in my plans!  I'm still digging out, grade wise, but should catch up by the end of the "Turkey Day" weekend.  So here's what to expect for this very short week:

MONDAY--Students should finish reading Chapters 2 & 3 from "The Golden Goblet".  This should be completed for tomorrow's assignment.

TUESDAY--Golden Goblet Chapters 2 & 3 Comprehension worksheet.  HOMEWORK--DUE WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY--LATE START--Groups will write summaries of Chapters 2 & 3 from The Golden Goblet.  This will be due at the end of the period.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY--NO SCHOOL

I'm very concerned with how the grades of some my Academy students are dropping.  These are supposed to be the "cream of the crop" sixth graders, but some of them don't seem to be taking the class too seriously. (Maybe I started off too easy?)  Please look very closely at your student's grade and if he/she has any missing assignments, and discuss this with him/her.  I hate to see a poor habit begin, especially in such gifted students.

Enjoy the long weekend, and as always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have (email address:  humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us or classroom phone number:  (360) 264-3644).

Sixth Grade Science for November 17th through 21st, 2014

Greetings!

What a beautiful (but cold) weekend it was!  Hope you enjoyed it. And--hooray!--we will have a "regular week" (if such a thing exists at a middle school).  Here is what to expect this "Movember" week:

MUSTACHE MONDAY--Students will complete their "Atomic Models".  THESE WILL BE DUE ON TUESDAY, SO THEY ARE HOMEWORK.  Also, we will be doing a preview for our lab tomorrow.

BLUE TIE TUESDAY--Students will begin the "Separating Mixtures" lab, so no homework.

BLUE SPORTS TEAM WEDNESDAY--Students will complete yesterday's lab and will add some vocabulary words to their Science Notebooks, so there will be no homework.

DENIM THURSDAY--Students will begin the "Making a Solution" lab.  That means no homework.

BLUE OUT FRIDAY--Students will work on answering comprehension questions from Chapter 2 Section 1 in the textbook. THIS WORKSHEET WILL BE DUE ON MONDAY, SO IT IS HOMEWORK.

The only "announcement" I can think of right now is that I will be gone on Friday, but I have the same substitute teacher as before, and it sound like the students & she got along famously.  As always, if you have a question, comment, or concern, please feel free to contact me.  My email address is humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us  and the phone number in our classroom is (360) 264-3644.

Have a wonderful week,

Art Plans for November 17th through 21st, 2014

Greetings!

What a beautiful (but cold) weekend it was!  Hope you enjoyed it. And--hooray!--we will have a "regular week" (if such a thing exists at a middle school).  In Art we have started our Drawing Unit, so this week we will focus on drawing with pencils, then the next two weeks we will use charcoal, so expect your student to be covered with one or the other while we work in these media.  Here is what to expect this "Movember" week:

MUSTACHE MONDAY--Students will be using the Art pencils to sketch geometric shapes.  This assignment will be due at the end of the period, so no homework.

BLUE TIE TUESDAY--Students will be sketching fruit in pencil.  This will also be due at the end of the period.

BLUE SPORTS TEAM WEDNESDAY--Students will work in pencil to sketch a "Beanie Baby".  As usual, this will be due at the end of the period.

DENIM THURSDAY--Students will use Art pencils to sketch seashells--our first attempt at overlapping.  Due at the end of the period.

BLUE OUT FRIDAY--Students will work in pencil to sketch leaves, again using overlap.  This assignment will be due at the end of the period.

Greetings!

What a beautiful (but cold) weekend it was!  Hope you enjoyed it. And--hooray!--we will have a "regular week" (if such a thing exists at a middle school).  Here is what to expect this "Movember" week:

MUSTACHE MONDAY--Students received their copies of "The Golden Goblet" and are to complete reading Chapter 1 by Tuesday, so other than that, no homework.  As usual I will be grading the agendas for last week's entries.

BLUE TIE TUESDAY--We will discuss Chapter 1 and there will be a HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT DUE WEDNESDAY.

BLUE SPORTS TEAM WEDNESDAY--Students will read Chapters 2 & 3 in "The Golden Goblet"; please consider this HOMEWORK.

DENIM THURSDAY--We will discuss Chapters 2 & 3 from "GG" plus there will be a HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT DUE FRIDAY.

BLUE OUT FRIDAY--Students will have time to read Chapters 4 & 5 silently in class from "The Golden Goblet", so that can be considered HOMEWORK too.  (Due Monday.)

Since we are now actually having some homework assignments in class, I have noticed some students' grades are dropping.  This is due mainly because of missing assignments.  Please look over this progress report carefully, and if you see any work your student has not turned in, please encourage him/her to do so as soon as possible.
