Sixth Grade Science Plans for May 7th through 11th, 2018

Greetings!

Oops! Almost let SBA LA testing and a home track meet sneak up on me--but I didn't forget!  Here is what we are doing this week:

MONDAY--Students work on the "Heating the Atmosphere" worksheet.  It is HOMEWORK DUE TUESDAY.

TUESDAY--Students will participate in a "Heating and Cooling Rates of Soil and Water" lab.  There is NO HOMEWORK.

WEDNESDAY--Students will graph the data from yesterday's lab.  They will be given plenty of time to work on this in class so it shouldn't be homework, but it is DUE THURSDAY.

THURSDAY--Students will read an article silently, then take notes on it.  Again, they will be given ample time in class to work on this, but this assignment is  DUE FRIDAY.

FRIDAY--Students will use their Chromebooks to review weather and climate.  NO HOMEWORK.

We are trying a different format for State Testing this year.  Instead of having several "test days" where students take their tests for about three hours, they are testing in the class they have for that specific subject.  Examples:  Language Arts testing in their LA class, Math testing in their Math class.  This means more days of testing, but in much shorter blocks of time.  It will be interesting to see how our students respond to this.  Please be sure your student:  doesn't miss school on testing days, gets plenty of sleep the night before, and has a substantial breakfast the morning of test days.  I try not to give homework the day before testing, too.  Those little things can really amount to a lot.  Thank you for your support on this matter.

Please look at your student's Science grade carefully.  If it is an"F", please send your student to Saturday School (here at TMS, in the library, from 8:00 a.m. to noon).  We have a session THIS weekend (May 12th) and next weekend (May 19th).  My goal for this semester is for no student to have an "F" on his/her report card in June.  For almost all students who are failing Science right now, it is due to missing assignments.  I plan on sending out emails and/or calling on Wednesday to make plans for Saturday School for students who need it.  Please help with your support on this; thank you.

As always, please call (360-264-3644) or email (humblem@tenino.k12.wa.us) if you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns.

Have a wonderful week,
Michele Humble
